SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Approximately 23 cars were involved in two separate crashes on I-271 in Summit County on Tuesday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed, and treacherous winter weather conditions are to blame.

The first crash happened on I-271 northbound near Wheatley Road (milepost 10) in Richfield Township around 10:15 a.m., according to OSHP.

OSHP said the crash involved approximately 13 vehicles, including three commercial vehicles.

Numerous people suffered serious injuries, OSHP stated, but they are not life-threatening.

The Richfield Police Department is assisting troopers with traffic control.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is also on scene treating the roadway due to snow and icy conditions, according to OSHP.

The second crash involving 10 other vehicles happened later on I-271 northbound at milepost 11, one mile away from the first crash, also in Richfield Township.

OSHP confirmed there are no injuries reported from the second crash.

Both crashes are still under investigation, according to OSHP.

“It is believed that winter weather conditions played a role in these crashes,” OSHP stated.

I-271 north was shut down from I-77 to SR-303 until 1:45 p.m. as crews cleared the crash scene.

Winter Park, Florida — On November 28, 2023 at approximately 7:26 p.m., the Winter Park Police Department responded to the Winter Park Village located at 520 N. Orlando Avenue for an armed carjacking to a valet attendant. The attendant advised he was parking a red Chevrolet Corvette when the suspect, 34-year-old Javon Hines threatened him with a gun and fled in the vehicle. Hines was located in the vehicle at the 1700 block of Lee Road and after a short foot pursuit was taken into custody. Hines is facing nine different charges for his actions on Tuesday night including armed carjacking, resisting arrest and grand theft. He’s being held in the Orange County jail with no bond set.

Records show this was Hines’ second felony arrest this year alone. He also has three additional felony cases currently open in Orange County for burglary, criminal mischief, and driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender. Back in July, investigators say he was caught behind the wheel of a black Range Rover that had been reported stolen out of Tampa. In December of last year, he admitted to officers that “he is a thief and frequently breaks in cars and steals items from them to make money” after detectives caught him committing a smash-and-grab burglary of an SUV in a Disney parking lot. They later found gloves and a ski mask in his vehicle.
