Washington, DC — On Monday, December 18, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers working a proactive high visibility patrol detail attempted to conduct an investigatory stop on a man in the 900 block of F Street, Northwest. As the officers exited their vehicle and attempted to stop the man, he took off running. Officers ran after the man. While running, the man displayed a firearm. One officer discharged a round, striking the man. Medics were immediately called to the scene and officers provided medical aid until paramedics from DC Fire and EMS arrived. The man, later identified as 27-year-old Corey Darnell Branch, of Southeast, DC, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Branch was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and six additional firearms related charges including Unlawful Possession and Carrying a Pistol Without a License.

Brooklyn, NY — On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Police Officer Santiago and Police Officer Nicholas Brush were on routine patrol in the vicinity of Bay 44th Street and Cropsey Avenue, in a marked NYPD vehicle equipped with a license plate reader. At that time, while traveling on Bay 44th Street, the officers were alerted by the license plate reader that they passed a black 2022 Honda HRV that was being sought in connection with a double homicide. Police Officer Santiago and Police Officer Brush confirmed that the Honda HRV was the same vehicle involved in the double homicide. Upon approach on foot, the officers discovered that the vehicle was occupied by 47-year-old Jason Pass, who was seated in the driver seat.

The officers conversed with Pass for several minutes while they continued to investigate the wanted vehicle. As the officers conducted their investigation, Pass exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. As he fled, Pass brandished a knife. Police Officer Santiago and Police Officer Brush pursued Pass on foot for approximately half a block. During this time, Police Officer Cardieri, Police Officer Iversen, Police Officer Massoni, Police Officer Terranova, and additional officers arrived at the scene. The officers ordered Pass to stop and drop his knife. However, he ran towards the officers while brandishing his knife, before retreating to the front of 187 Bay 44th Street where he remained. The officers conversed with Pass for approximately 28 minutes, during which time they repeatedly asked him to disarm himself and surrender. However, Pass refused and charged at the officers while brandishing his knife.

As a result, five Police Officers assigned to patrol in the 60th Precinct and attired in uniform, discharged a total of 17 shots from their service firearms. Police Officer Santiago discharged two shots from his service firearm; Police Officer Cardieri discharged five shots from his service firearm; Police Officer Iversen discharged four shots from his service firearm; Police Officer Massoni discharged one shot from his service firearm; and Police Officer Terranova discharged five shots from his service firearm. Pass was struck by the gunfire and fell to the ground. He transported via ambulance to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where he was pronounced deceased. The subject's knife was recovered at the scene of the incident during this investigation.

Mesquite, Texas — On December 14, 2023, at approximately 2:57 a.m., Texas State Police were patrolling the area of Cartwright road and Edwards Church road. A stolen Hyundai sedan was found at Cartwright Road and Faithon P Lucas Sr. Boulevard. Both vehicles were then parked at a nearby 7-Eleven gas station just after 3:00 a.m. Police found the Hyundai empty. With four people inside the Chrysler, the driver of the Chrysler, 19-year-old Payton Lawrence, was then ordered to turn off the vehicle and stop. But Lawrence continued to "sneak around in the car," and police then shot him three times. Lawrence was later pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people in the Chrysler were questioned and released. The third, 19-year-old Kevon Moore of Dallas, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Authorities were unable to find the other two men who fled. Police later found multiple firearms in the Chrysler.

Bronx, NY — On September 9, 2023, around 2:10 p.m., 22-year-old Mamady Cisse, was pacing around the Throgs Neck 7-Eleven when an employee stepped outside momentarily. The employee returned to find Cisse behind the cashier counter with a knife, standing beside a female employee who looked “very nervous,” while he was removing merchandise from behind the counter. The employee flagged down two officers at the 45 Precinct just down the block. The New York PD officers entered the store. Officer Nunez gave several commands to Cisse inside the location to take his hands out of his sweatshirt pocket. Cisse didn’t say anything to the officers, but revealed a knife and “lunged” at Officer Nunez. Officer Nunez shot Cisse once in the torso. Cisse was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:14 p.m.. Officers recovered knives at the scene.

Riverside County, California — On October 18, 2023, at 7:08 p.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Palm Desert Station were dispatched to the area of Ramon Road and Robert Road in the unincorporated area of Thousand Palms to locate the suspect of a felony hit and run. Deputies arrived at the area and contacted a vehicle occupied by two subjects. While detaining the driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Jose Eduardo Rosales Perez, the passenger, 27-year-old Kristian Galeana fired at deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Galeana barricaded inside the vehicle and refused to follow commands. The Riverside Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, California Highway Patrol and additional surrounding agencies responded to assist.

One deputy was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. Galeana, also struck by gunfire, was ultimately taken into custody. Deputies provided medical aid, and he was transported to a local hospital; he is currently in stable condition. Due to Rosales Perez’ actions and involvement during the incident he was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on three counts of attempted murder of a peace officer. On Sunday October 22, 2023, Riverside County Sheriff’s investigators identify the second suspect of the deputy involved shooting as 27-year-old Kristian Galeana, resident of Thousand Palms. Galeana was booked in absentia at the John Benoit Detention Center on three counts of attempted murder of a peace officer; however, he remains hospitalized. The deputy also remains hospitalized and is showing improvement.

Brooklyn, New York — On October 27, 2023, New York City Police Officers responded to a 911 call of a male with a firearm at Neptune Avenue in West 20th Street within the confines of the 60th Precinct. Bodycam shows an officer open the passenger-side door of a car while a 34-year-old man is sitting there with his hand on a gun. The officers shouted for the man to drop the gun before one officer pulled him out of the vehicle. As several officers tried to remove the gun from the suspect's hand, a shot was fired. No one was injured and the officers were eventually able to get the gun away from the man and take him into custody. Officials reveal that the person who was disarmed, shot a female at an earlier point.

Louisville, Kentucky — On Monday, November 13th, 2023, around 2:30 p.m., LMPD 4th Division Officers were dispatched to a domestic violence run in the 1000 block of Beecher Street. When officers arrived on scene at the home, they encountered a male suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jaron Bobbitt, sitting in a vehicle in a driveway. Bobbitt was armed with an AR-style pistol. Bobbitt then led officers on a foot chase through a densely populated neighborhood. The officers repeatedly commanded Bobbitt to drop the weapon. Bobbitt refused to comply despite being told to drop the gun multiple times.

An LMPD officer discharged his weapon striking Bobbitt when Bobbitt pointed the loaded AR-style pistol at the officer. Officers immediately rendered life-saving aid. Bobbitt stated to officers that the firearm was a “toy gun". Investigators discovered that the gun was not a toy and was, in fact, fully loaded with live ammunition. Medics transported Bobbitt to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released the next day on Tuesday, November 14th. The domestic violence victim sustained multiple injuries to include a knot on forehead, a bruised and black left eye, and pain and swelling to the back of her head. Bobbitt is facing multiple charges for causing the victim's injuries and fleeing from officers.

Sandy, Utah — On November 9, 2023, at 7:30 a.m. the Sandy Police Department said the unidentified 16-year-old stole a U.S. Army van from an Army recruiting building on 9400 South in Sandy. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in South Jordan, but the suspect fled, and officers did not pursue. Hours later, a person called 9-1-1 and reported a teenager driving a U.S. Army van through the neighborhood and asking for gas. officers tried to stop the vehicle again. At that moment, officers found the teen followed him through Sandy, unsuccessfully trying tire spikes at a few locations to stop him.

On Monroe Street, an officer approached the driver, yelling, “Get out of the car now! Get out of the car now! Get out of the car now!” Police said the suspect backed up, made a U-Turn and started driving into oncoming traffic before hitting a motorcyclist who was severely injured. Two officers then followed the teen suspect into a dead-end area. Officers then attempted to block the suspect’s escape as he turned the vehicle around. The driver of the van then veered toward an officer and the officer opened fire in an attempt to stop the vehicle, wounding the driver. The driver stopped the vehicle after bumping into a police vehicle. Officers are seen removing the teen from the van and laying him on the ground. The teen was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
