HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city Prosecutor’s Office said two Honolulu police officers were justified last week in shooting a 48-year-old man accused of running at them with a knife.

At a news conference Monday, city Prosecutor Steve Alm released police body cam and surveillance video of the shooting that shows officers trying to get suspect Ricky L. Kaleopaa to drop the knife. Officers ordered him to drop it at least 25 times before he runs toward them, the video shows.

“He just charges them, really quickly. At that point, he was maybe 10 feet away,” Alm said. “They had no choice but to shoot. The officers in this case did everything right.”

Kaleopaa was critically injured in the shooting and remains hospitalized.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday released a video of a December incident that shows a man ambushing two officers with a knife before they shot him in the back.

Deonta Williams, 20, was charged with two counts of attempted murder following the unprovoked attack at about 1:15 am. Dec. 1, 2021, in the 1400 block of Fairfield Avenue. Williams told dispatchers and officers at the scene that he was being harassed by another man.

The video shows Williams pointing in the direction where he said the man went. After the IMPD officers walked away, Williams stabbed one officer in the chest and another in the neck.

Video footage shows both officers giving Williams commands to get on the ground before firing their guns at him multiple times.

The officers held Williams at gunpoint before additional officers arrived at the scene.

Police who arrived rendered aid to the two wounded officers and Williams.

One of the officers sustained a significant stab wound across his neck and received life-saving care at the scene, the video says.

Court documents said the officer with a neck injury suffered a lacerated outer jugular vein and underwent surgery at Eskenazi Hospital. The officer with the chest wound was treated at Eskenazi and released.

Williams received treatment for multiple gunshot non-life threatening wounds at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Prosecutors say Williams was at Eskenazi when he told an IMPD detective that he lured the officers into an ambush because wanted to kill one of them before they could kill him.

“I was gonna kill an officer," Williams confessed to Sgt. Michael Duke, according to the affidavit. “He said he didn't want to kill a lot of officers, he just wanted to kill one.”

Millville, New Jersey — The state Attorney General’s Office released the footage of the moments before an officer fatally shot a city man holding what police have described as a machete outside a home earlier this month. Police were called to a house on Burns Street about 9:30 p.m. and encountered 33-year-old Daniel Ackley, who was holding the machete. According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 outside a residence on Burns Road in Millville. Officers of the Millville Police Department responded to 911 calls reporting an emergency at the residence. After officers arrived, they encountered Mr. Ackley holding a machete outside the house. As Mr. Ackley advanced toward the officers with the machete, Officer Timothy Rehmann discharged his service weapon, fatally wounding Mr. Ackley. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid to Mr. Ackley, and he was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 10:56 p.m.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three men are charged after a shootout with Chicago police that left one of them critically injured Wednesday night.

Chicago police said officers were attempting to stop a car that had been taken in a carjacking with three men inside. After pulling the car over, as officers approached the vehicle, there was an exchange of gunfire, according to CPD.

Edgardo Perez, 24, was shot by police and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition. He is now charged with attempted first degree murder of a Chicago police officer.

The two other people in the car were taken into custody. Jesse Sanchez, 21, and Noel Centeno, 20, are also now facing felony charges for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle and weapons charges.

Two weapons were recovered, police said, a pistol with a laser sight and a revolver.

Video obtained by the ABC7 I-Team from law enforcement sources shows the dramatic confrontation as it happened when Chicago police shot a man in the heart of downtown Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. near Lower Wacker Drive and Columbus Drive, an area which is heavily traveled both ways near the Chicago River.

No officers were shot, but a 34-year-old officer and a 30-year-old officer were taken to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries, according to police.

The age and gender of the people in custody have not been released.

The scene cleared about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, and a car riddled with bullet holes was towed away.

Video from a police POD cam shows the first officer come to the passenger-side window, then go down for cover, either seeing a gun or responding to suspect gunfire, before getting back up to help other officers.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it was responding to the shooting.

A sheriff in middle Georgia is alive and expected to return to work after being shot in the chest.

Police say bodycam video shows a Snellville man fired the gun.

The incident happened over the weekend in Jones County.

Jones County Deputy John Kile pulled Lucas Olivara over because the Gwinnett County man was going too slow along the country road.

Out of nowhere, Olivara pulled a gun.

“What do you have in there?” bodycam video shows Kile asking Olivara.

“I have nothing. This is my home,” Olivara said.

That’s when Olivara started shooting. The bullet struck Kile in his vest. He was stunned but unharmed.

He then hopped in his patrol car and took off after Olivara.

Kile tried to do a pit maneuver to stop Olivara.

A few miles later, another deputy spun Olivara out. Bodycam video shows Olivara rolling down his window and shooting the gun again.

Only after Olivara was in handcuffs did the deputy look at his chest.

“You can see it didn’t come through. That’s just the impact and the friction,” Kile said on the bodycam video, showing where he was hit.

“So often we see what bad police do. Deputy Kile was doing his job and you can see the consequences of what happened to him,” Jones County Sheriff Butch Reese told Channel 2′s Tony Thomas. “Thank goodness for the vest. He was a blessed man. God looked after him.”

Olivara was taken to a mental hospital for evaluation. His family told Thomas on Monday that he is bipolar.

This incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when a convenience store employee called 911 to report a number of customers told him about a man outside with a gun who was threatening to rob the store.

“… But they said that he's flashed a gun and he's talking about robbing the place," said the convenience store employee to the 911 operator.

Two officers in the area arrived on scene about 3 minutes later. They contacted 32-year-old Gary Sherrod who was seated outside the store. Sherrod stood up and officers noticed he had a gun in his hand. The two officers gave multiple commands for Sherrod to drop the gun, which he ignored. Sherrod held the gun in front of his body, moving it around in different directions.

The officers' body worn cameras were activated. However, the views were obstructed at times, including at the time of the shooting.

The officer who fired told investigators Sherrod pointed the weapon in his direction, which resulted in the officer-involved shooting.

Slightly more than a minute elapsed from the time the officers contacted Sherrod to the time of the officer-involved shooting.

After the shooting, officers could see Sherrod no longer had the gun. It was on the ground out of his reach. They moved in to detain him and provided medical aid until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived.

Sherrod was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for the gunshot wound. He is expected to survive his injuries and upon release from the hospital, will be booked in to jail.
