A man stabbed two employees at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Saturday, officials said. Police are still searching for the suspect, who was identified as a former member of the museum.

"This incident is still unfolding," Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller of the New York City Police Department said at a press conference Saturday evening. "We're at a very early stage in the investigation."

At around 4:15 p.m. local time, the man attempted to gain entrance to the museum by presenting his membership card, but was denied because his membership had expired due to two prior incidents involving disorderly conduct at the museum in recent days, Miller said.

The man then became upset and jumped over the museum's reception desk before stabbing two employees multiple times in the back, collar bone and the back of the neck.

The employees were transported to a local hospital within minutes of the attack, Miller said. They are both expected to be okay.

"This was a rapidly unfolding, spontaneous incident," Miller said.

The man involved in the incident is known to the NYPD. He was recorded on video leaving the museum following the stabbings, and authorities are still looking for him, according to Miller. He is described as a White male wearing a black jacket, a colorful shirt and a blue surgical mask.

Police released video of the incident on Sunday that appeared to show a man jump over the reception desk and stab employees as they attempted to escape. The NYPD said Sunday that it is searching for 60-year-old Gary Cabana in connection with the assault.

Videos published to social media by museum visitors showed crowds of people evacuating the museum.

Mayor Eric Adams tweeted that he had been briefed on the situation, and thanked first responders for their "quick work."

"Please continue to avoid the area while Police continue their investigation and if you have any information, please contact the NYPD immediately," he wrote. "Public safety is our top priority. Today's incident is a reminder that this work affects every community."

Police are looking for a man who dined at a Hibachi restaurant in the Bronx and tried to leave without paying earlier this week, throwing food at the server who tried to stop him and coming back later to punch her in the face, authorities say.

The man rang up a bill around $70 at Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet on 161st Street Monday, then tried to leave.

A 21-year-old server confronted him outside the restaurant, at which point a fight broke out and he threw food at her, along with other employees, cops say.

He left -- only to return a short time later.

Police say he walked up to that 21-year-old server who had confronted him. She was behind the counter. He punched her in the face and ran off again, cops say.

The victim was treated at a hospital for bruising, pain and swelling and is expected to be OK.

A 57-year-old woman was hit in the head with a hammer several times and robbed in one of the latest violent crimes in a New York subway station, police said.
Police are searching for a suspect who kicked the woman and struck her "numerous times" and fled on foot with her purse, New York Police Department Chief of Detectives James Essig said at a news conference Friday afternoon.
The woman's family identified her as Nina Rothschild, a scientist for the New York City Department of Health. She was attacked just 15 minutes after leaving work, police said.

The woman was attacked about 11 p.m. Thursday by a 6-foot tall male wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and holding a cane, Essig said.
"This is an unprovoked, brutal and appalling crime on a woman who was just trying to get home after a day's work," Essig said.
Rothschild, who was bleeding from her brain, was taken to Cornell Medical Center with a fractured skull and lacerations to her face, Essig said.

She has had part of her skull replaced with wire mesh, according to her brother, Gerson Rothschild. She also has a drop foot, a condition where the patient is unable to lift their foot. It is unclear whether it was nerve damage or a mental block, he said.
"Of course, I can't wish this on someone else, it shouldn't happen to anyone," Gerson Rothschild told CNN on Saturday. "I wish it wasn't my sister, but we have to deal with what we have."
The sibling pair lost their parents within 29 days of each other in 2000.
"It's just Nina and me, basically it's just the two of us," Gerson Rothschild said. "Little brother will do whatever he can to protect big sister."

INWOOD, NY — Police released a video Tuesday of a delivery man getting beaten, thrown to the ground, and stomped on by a group of attackers in Inwood.

The 50-year-old man was delivering food on Sunday around 8:45 p.m. to a building at 60 Cooper Street. As he was waiting to get buzzed into the building the first attacker strides into the small vestibule, video shows.

The delivery man turns toward the door and just as three more people enter the building, the first person to come in throws a disguised left punch at him, video shows.

The other three attackers quickly jump in with fists and kicks, throwing off his helmet in the process.

The group eventually snatches $200 from the man and runs out of the building.

As the attackers were all wearing hoodies and masks, the only description police provided is that the four attackers are males between the ages of 16 and 20.

There have been no arrests.

Police also say, "there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident," despite the clear physical beatdown that the deliveryman takes during the video.
